Where it all started...

Riley Veillon was the founder of the teams. Riley participated in 4-H in her youth and a variety of show types from Open, English/Western pleasure, Hunter Jumper, and low level eventing. As a teenager she joined the Midwest Renegades and that is where she learned about trick riding and drill team. The US Amy moved her and her husband to the state of Alaska in 2010. There she began her business specializing in rodeo performance from drill to trick riding.  The teams started with four dedicated trick riders and since then the teams have evolved and grown into one of the best rodeo entertainment acts in the state of Alaska.  In the summer of 2013, Riley announced that she would be leaving to return to her home state in fall of 2014, which began a search for someone to pass the torch to. Through mutual friends, Riley got in touch with Michelle Hamilton.

Michelle moved to the state of Alaska in October of 2013. Michelle was born and raised in Colorado. Growing up Michelle was a part of the Westernaires for ten years, which is where she learned everything about drill and trick riding. After she graduated from the Westernaires she earned her PRCA card for Trickriding. Riley and Michelle worked with the kids over the winter and through the 2014 Performance Season. In September of 2014, Riley left back to her home state and officially passed the torch. Michelle enthusiastically coached the teams until the summer of 2017 when she was offered her old job back in Kentucky. Knowing how hard it is to find a new coach for these special teams, Michelle began the search which led her to previous team member Shyanne Schebler.

Shyanne had been on the Varsity Drill Team as well as the Rebel Riders Trick Team for five years and loved every minute of it. In 2016, Shyanne made the decision to step down from the teams in order to fulfill her duties as 2016 Miss Rodeo Alaska. Even while attending rodeos as Miss Rodeo Alaska, Shyanne always supported her old team mates and helped out as much as she could. In July 2017, Michelle approached Shyanne and her fiancé Bradyn Holly about taking over the teams in the fall after the rodeo season was finished. Shyanne and Bradyn began attending practices and helping out at shows as much as possible in order to see what all goes into coaching these amazing teams. In September 2017, Shyanne and Bradyn officially took over the teams.  It is now where these three paths have intersected, and the hope for the teams is to provide a positive and safe environment for kids that love horses.

In 2020 Darla Smith took over the teams with her daughter Corin Smith. Corin Smith started Drill in 2014 back when Michelle took over the teams from Riley.  Corin leased several different horses for lessons and drill for 2 years . She decided that she wanted to start Trick Riding about the time Michelle was about to pass the teams onto Shyanne and Bradyn. That was the year the teams were able to go to Red Top Trick school in Colorado. This provided the training needed to be able to perform. The 2020 Drill team has many new riders and is eager to learn new drills. Due to The World Wide pandemic of Covid-19 many performances were canceled in 2020.  However the Trick team was able to make a  return trip to Colorado for additional training. The Cadence Drill and Rebel Riders Trick teams were still able to perform at 2 Ninilchik, 1 Fairbanks and 1 Palmer Rodeo's despite social distancing and local lock downs. One of our Long time Trick team members has retired with the end of the 2020 season Breanna Butchard will be greatly missed  as she pursues other rodeo venues.

At the end of the 2022 performance season, Darla and Corin were introduced to Crystal Borstad, who took the proverbial reins from Darla in December of 2022.  Corin has stayed on as coach to help Crystal "learn the ropes" and continue coaching and guiding our young team members in their drill and trick training.
